February is Pet Dental Health Month and since today is the last day of February, we wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of keeping up with the dental health of our furry family members. Luckily for us, we have a veterinary dental specialist in our Best Friends family. Dr. Goldstein is not only our Chief Medical Officer, he is a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry and is board certified in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery.

A Secured Pet is a Safe Pet: Reduce Serious Risks by Restraining Pets on Car Rides
Only a few short decades ago, buckling up was optional for drivers and their passengers, and people were generally unaware of the serious dangers posed by riding in cars without safety belts. Today, all that has changed. Everyone uses a seatbelt, and wisely so. Those riding in the front seat can reduce their risk of fatal injuries by 45 percent and their risk of moderate to critical injury by 50 percent, just by buckling up. In addition, rear seat passengers riding without seatbelts increase the death rate of front seat passengers by up to 5 times.

What are the recommended daily servings for my pet based on?
Not only is the type of food that we feed our furry family members important but, it is also critical to know HOW MUCH we should be feeding. The reality is however, that a lot of different factors go into determining what the right amount of food is for your pet.

Many of us are eager to bring along the family pet along, but wonder how to make a road trip work with our canine best friend in the back seat. Following are my suggestions for successful car travel with a pet.
The Dirty Dog Pet Photo Contest ended Monday night and we are happy to say it was a big splash. We laughed, we cried, we saw so many muddy mutts! With all of these dogs in desperate need of a deep clean grooming, the judges had the tough task of choosing only ten winners. It was a mucky job, but someone had to do it!

Happy Spring! Can you believe that spring has officially begun? Time for spring cleaning, changing the batteries in the smoke alarms, and time to start thinking about spending some more time outdoors. Depending on where you live, this means that our furry family members will be outside more and will be exposed to those pesky fleas and ticks. Fortunately, as a responsible pet parent, you are going to be proactive about their protection.
